Bei Finnland denke ich zu allererst an lustige Menschen, die quietschvergnügt zwischen Sauna und zugefrorenen Seen hin und her rennen, an die kultige Hard-Rock-Gruppe Lordi (Gewinner des Eurovision Song Contest 2006) und natürlich an den Zweitligisten mit dem klangvollen Namen JJK Jyväskylä, von dem mir meine finnische Schulfreundin Milla Niemi dankenswerterweise ein Trikot besorgt hatte. Viele liebe Grüße, Milla! Generell scheinen die Skandinavier eine der schwersten Sprachen Europas zu sprechen, haben sie doch satte 17 Fälle (!). Sein Seenreichtum brachte dem Land auch den Beinamen „Land der tausend Seen“ ein. Interessant: Donald Duck Comics waren in Finnland jahrelang verboten, da der Protagonist keine Hose trägt.

Die absolute Lieblingssportart der Finnen ist Eishockey, dort war man schließlich auch schon mal Weltmeister. Aber auch andere finnische Spitzensportler wie z.B. Janne Ahonen (Schispringen) oder Kimi Raikkönen (Formel 1) haben sich international einen Namen gemacht. Daneben gibt es die Fußball-Nationalmannschaft des Landes, die seit 1911 Länderspiele austrägt und seither vergeblich auf eine Teilnahme bei einer WM- oder EM-Endrunde wartet. Der wohl bekannteste finnische Fußballer war Jari Litmanen, der gefühlte 1000 Jahre das Trikot der Nationalmannschaft trug. Mittlerweile kicken auch eine ganze Menge Finnen in Deutschland, wie zum Beispiel Mikael Forssell (VfL Bochum), Tim Sparv (SpVgg Greuther Fürth), Timo Furuholm (Hallescher FC) oder natürlich Alexander Ring bei meinem Lieblingsclub 1.FC Kaiserslautern.

Gott sei Dank sind die Finnen von einem allzu langweiligen Template aus dem Hause adidas verschont geblieben und bringen mit geschwungenen Formen in blau wenigstens ein bisschen Wiedererkennungswert in ihr Trikot. Das Wappen des Verbandes hätte man allerdings nicht unkreativer designen können. Monet kiitokset, Sascha!

On first thought about Finland, I think of funny people moving along between saunas and frozen lakes as happy as a sandboy, the iconic hard rock band Lordi (winner of the Eurovision Song Contest in 2006) and of course the football team of JJK Jyväskylä in the 2nd division. My Finnish school friend Milla Niemi once organized me a football shirt from there. Best greetings, Milla! It seems as if the Finnish people would have the toughest language in Europe as they have 17 cases (!). Its richness of lakes also brought Finland the nick name ”Land of the tousand lakes”. Interesting fact: Donald Duck comics were forbidden very long in Finland because the protagonist doesn’t wear pants.

The absolute national sport in Finland is ice hockey where they have already made it to be world champion. But there are several top athletes from Finland, too, such as Janne Ahonen (ski jumping) or Kimi Raikkönen (Formula 1). Besides that, there’s the national football team playing internationals since 1911 and still hoping to qualify for a Euro or WC final round one day. Probably the most popular Finnish footballer was Jari Litmanen who played apparently for around 1000 years. Until today, there are a few Finish footballers in Germany, for example Mikael Forssell (VfL Bochum), Tim Sparv (SpVgg Greuhter Fürth), Timo Furuholm (Hallescher FC) or of course Alexander Ring playing for my favorite club 1.FC Kaiserslautern.

Thank God, Finland got something more than a boring template from outfitter adidas. The curved blue shapes make this shirt appear a little more special. But: the FA’s badge couldn’t have been any more uncreative. Monet kiitokset, Sascha!
