Grüßen möchte ich an dieser Stelle sehr herzlich meinen Frankfurter Schiedsrichter-Kollegen Alex Stoler, seines Zeichens mit ukrainischen Wurzeln, sowie eine weitere Freundin, die ukrainische Kontorsionistin Nadya Vasina. Laut der Weltgesundheitsorganisation WHO ist der Konsum von Tabak und Alkohol nirgendwo so hoch wie in der Ukraine. In der Ukraine gibt es über 40 Wodkahersteller. Die Situation in der Ukraine ist politisch derzeit mehr als schwierig, der Streit um die Kriminsel schlägt international viele Wellen. Ich habe natürlich eine tiefe Solidarität mit betroffenen ukrainischen Bürgern. Seit dem Zusammenbruch der Sowjetunion und ihrer Gründung 1991 war die Ukraine all zu oft wie ein Spielball fremder Mächte und ich hoffe sehr, dass sich dieser Zustand schnellstmöglich ändert. Doch das Land kann auch anders: 2004 blickte die Welt mit Interesse auf die „Orange Revolution“ in der Ukraine und ihre vorbildlich friedlichen Demonstranten.

Gleich bei der allerersten WM-Teilnahme 2006 wussten die „Schowto-blakytni“ (die „Gelb-Blauen“) um den Weltklasse-Stürmer Andrij Schewtschenko zu überraschen und drangen bis ins Viertelfinale vor, wo gegen den späteren Weltmeister Italien Schluss war. Natürlich hatte das Land große Ziele, vorrangig die Europameisterschaft, die man 2012 gemeinsam mit Polen austragen durfte. Das Team enttäuschte trotz gestandener europäischer Fußballer wie dem defensiven Mittelfeldmann Anatolij Tymoschtschuk (FC Bayern) und schied im eigenen Land bereits nach der Vorrunde aus, trotz eines Auftaktsieges gegen Schweden.

Für viele Sammler gilt das Trikot von besagter Europameisterschaft als eines der schönsten Ukraine-Trikots aller Zeiten. Ausrüster adidas scheint sich wirklich für den Heim-Auftritt der Ukrainer viel Mühe gegeben zu haben, das Trikot ist toll verarbeitet und bietet mit den Wasserzeichen im pixelig abgesetzten Brustring echte Hingucker. Das Wappen gefällt mir persönlich auch sehr gut, dazu der kernige Slogan „Ukraine, vorwärts!“ in kyrillischer Schrift auf dem Nacken. Ein tolles Trikot.

Und falls noch jemand Zeit hat: unbedingt mal bei YouTube die ukrainische Nationalhymne anhören – meiner Meinung nach eine der schönsten Hymnen aller Zeiten!

First of all, I’d like to greet my referee colleague in Frankfurt, Alex Stoler, who has Ukrainian roots, and another friend of mine, the Ukrainian contortionist Nadya Vasina. According to the World Health Organization WHO the consumption of alcohol and tobacco is nowhere on earth that high as in the Ukraine. In Ukraine, you have more than 40 producers of Vodka. The political situation nowadays is very difficult in the Ukraine, terrible conflicts around the peninsula Krim cause rumors all around the world. Of course, I am showing my solidarity with the Ukrainian citizens. Since the breakdown of the Sowjet Union and its foundation in 1991, the Ukraine has been something like a ball for the foreign powers too many times. I do really hope that this will end as soon as possible. But the country also has another face: in 2004, the whole world could watch the famous “Orange Revolution” in the Ukraine with its exemplary peaceful protesters.

At their first WC participation in 2006, the “Schowto-blakytni” (the “Yellow-Blue”) knew how to surprise making it to the quarter finals with their world class forward Andrij Schewtschenko where they lost against the later winners from Italy. Of course, the country claimed high goals since then, mainly for the EURO they hosted together with Poland in 2012. Although they had some established kickers such as captain Anatolij Tymoschtschuk (FC Bayern), they didn’t manage the group stage even after an opening win against Sweden.

Many collectors think that the shirt the Ukrainians wore during that tournament is probably their most beautiful one of all time. I guess outfitter adidas wanted them to appear in a master piece during their home tournament. The shirt is very well processed and has some eye catcher with the water marks in it pixelated chest ring. I do also like the FA’s badge and the solid slogan “Ukraine, forward!” written in Cyrillic letters on the back. A very nice shirt.

And if you still have time: you should absolutely watch the Ukrainian national anthem on YouTube – if you ask me, it is one of the most beautiful anthems of all time!
