Um ehrlich zu sein ist mir die pakistanische Fußballnationalmannschaft ein Begriff, da diese mit Platz 157 der Weltrangliste im Videospiel zur FIFA WM 2006 das schlechteste Team war, das man spielen konnte und ich diese damals zur WM geführt habe. Der Name Pakistan entstammt der Landessprache Urdu und bedeutet so viel wie „Land der Reine“ („pak“ = „rein im Geiste“, „stan“ = „Land“). Neben der bekannten Hauptstadt ist die 13-Millionen-Metropole Karachi die größte Stadt des Staates südlich vom Hindukusch-Gebirge. Pakistan verfügt über tolle Landschaftszüge und eine bemerkenswerte Fauna (sicher kennt ihr alle die aufregenden Schneeleoparden). Die pakistanische Non-Profit-Wohltätigkeitsorganisation Edhi Foundation gilt als das größte ambulante Netzwerk der Welt. Außerdem stößt man bei Internetrecherchen immer wieder auf den Zuckerrohrsaft „Roh“, das Nationalgetränk Pakistans, welches fast ausschließlich von Straßenverkäufern angeboten wird.  

Wie in den Commonwealth-Ländern üblich, sind Hockey und vor allem Cricket die Nationalsportarten des Landes. Pakistan ist Hockey-Rekordweltmeister. Außerdem gilt Pakistan als die erfolgreichste Nation der Welt im Squash.

Insofern hat Pakistan schon mal fußballerische Relevanz, als dass über 50% aller Fußbälle im weltweiten Umlauf in Pakistan gefertigt wurden. Da Fußball nur eine Randsportart ist, gilt die pakistanische als eine der schwächsten Nationalmannschaften auf dem asiatischen Kontinent und konnte sich auch noch nie für eine Welt- oder Asienmeisterschaft qualifizieren. Der bekannteste Spieler im derzeitigen Kader ist Innenverteidiger Zesh Rehman, der sein Geld bei Pahang FA in Malaysia verdient.

Mein Pakistan-Trikot vom seltenen Ausrüster Sapphire Sports bekam ich abermals von Sascha. Es ist ein älteres Shirt (weshalb es sehr schwer war, ein Beweisfoto zu finden), allerdings gefällt mir der mintgrüne Farbton sehr gut. Da pakistanische Trikots in Deutschland sehr selten anzutreffen sind, bereichert es meine Sammlung natürlich ungemein! (O-Ton von Sascha: "Warum verschweigst du den Leuten eigentlich, wie unförmig das [gute Stück] ist?" - Wahrscheinlich, weil es an meinem unförmigen Körper hervorragend passt...)

To be honest, I know the Pakistani national team from the video game of FIFA World Cup 2006, where they have been the worst team you could play standing on number 157 of the FIFA world rankings. The name Pakistan leads back to the native language Urdu and means “Land of the Pure” (“pak” = “clear in mind”, “stand” = “land”). Besides its popular capital Islamabad, the 13 million metropolis Karachi is the biggest city in the country beneath the Hindu Kush mountains. Pakistan has a wonderful countryside and an impressive fauna (you probably know the awesome snow leopards). The Pakistani non-profit health organization Edhi Foundation is renowned to lead the largest ambulance network in the world. Researching facts about Pakistan, you often find the sugarcane juice “Roh”, the national drink of the country, which is mostly sold by road vendors.

As it is quite usual for the Commonwealth nations, hockey and especially cricket are the national sports in Pakistan. Pakistan is record world champion in hockey and famous to be the most successful Squash nation in the world either.

Pakistan somehow has its relevance in football as more than 50% of all footballs worldwide were produced in the country. The Pakistani national team seems to be one of the weakest football teams in Asia because football is just a marginalized sport there. Unfortunately they have neither made it to a World Cup nor to an Asia Cup so far. The most valuable player in the actual team is defender Zesh Rehman who is currently playing for Pahang FA in Malaysia.

I got my Pakistan shirt which is from the rare outfitter Sapphire Sports from Sascha again. It is a quite old shirt (so it was very difficult to find a photo of evidence), but I actually like the mint green colour. As you do not find Pakistani shirts that often in Germany, it enriches my collection exquisitely. (O-tone Sascha: "Why don't you tell the people how bulky this [good piece] is?" - Well, maybe because it fits perfectly on my bulky body...)
